And since this is already becoming disgustingly long, why not talk about the manga ending as well. I was surprised so many people didn’t like it, mostly because many of the past characters (read = Karl) didn’t make an appearance? And Asuka “winning”? This is exactly what I was talking about in the first paragraph. Dismissing all the other references in this chapter just because Kaworu fanservice wasn’t delivered. While Kaworu had most of the flashier scenes with Shinji in this story, he wasn’t anywhere near the top of the “People who most influenced the protagonist” list.
